Taipei City Government announces smoking is prohibited on sidewalks around 21 schools, the regulation will come into effect as of May 31, 2015.

To protect students, teaching staff, parents and general public from passive smoking, Department of Health, Taipei City Government has set out to introduce smoke-free sidewalks around schools of Taipei. The regulation is based on Article 15, Paragraph 1, No. 13 of Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act. We listed sidewalks of 21 schools (11 primary schools, 5 junior high schools, 4 senior high schools/ vocational schools, and one university) as smoke-free environment. The regulation will come into effect as of May 31, 2015. According to Article 31, Paragraph 1, violators will be fined from NT$2,000 to NT$10,000.
