Taipei City Successfully Joined the Alliance for Healthy Cities (AFHC) into the Ranks of International Healthy City

The 7th Global Conference of the Alliance for Healthy Cities was held in Wonju City, Republic of Korea, from August 29 to September 1, 2016. On the basis of promoting Healthy City in 6 districts and Safe Communities in other 6 districts, Taipei City has much increased its soft power in health. In 2015, Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je appointed Huang Shier-Chieg, the Commissioner of Department of Health, as the leader of several departments to apply for membership of the Alliance for Healthy Cities (AFHC) on the name of “Taipei Healthy City Promotion Association” in June, 2016. And the AFHC has granted Taipei Healthy City Promotion Association as Associate Member on August 31 at the global conference. The certificate was received by Lin Hsiu-lian, the Deputy Commissioner of Department of Health, on behalf of the Association, make Taipei City successfully a part of international healthy city.

For long term promotion on healthy city, safe community and age-friendly city at the district-level in Taipei, properly utilization of resources, and provision of caring services for citizens, Taipei City formulates 63 healthy city indicators, including Safety, Sustainability, Friendly Culture, Active Health and Prosperous Convenience themes, adhered to the concept of “health in all policies” and based on the key policy “Ensure Health and Safety” in the strategic map of Taipei City Government and 32 international indicators set by World Health Organization (including 3 dimensions - health, environmental and socioeconomic) so as to achieve “Health for All”, WHO’s guiding goal.

Joining the AFHC is a crucial milestone for Taipei in promoting healthy city. Taipei City will take innovative policy-making experiences from other healthy cities around the globe and will grasp the pulse of international healthy cities as a reference to make Taipei a more liveable and sustainable city.

Taipei City was awarded as Associate Member of AFHC on August 31 at the 7th global conference on the name of “Taipei Healthy City Promotion Association”, successfully joined the ranks of international healthy city. The Deputy Commissioner of Department of Health Lin Hsiu-lian received the certificate on behalf of the association.
