Taipei City Government announces smoking is prohibited in the five outdoor areas around exits of MRT stations, the regulation will come into effect as of May 1st 2016.

To build a smoking-free outdoor environment and to protect general public from passive smoking, the Department of Health,Taipei City Government has announced that the five outdoor areas around exits of MRT stations are set to be smoking-free areas. The regulation is based on Article 15, Paragraph 1, No. 13 of Tobacco Prevention Act. From May 1, the following areas are smoking-free:
1. Area around the Exit R1 of Zhongshan Metro Mall,
2. Space next the Exit R1 of Zhongshan Metro Mall,
3. Areas around the Exit 1 & Exit 2 of MRT Shilin Station,
4. Areas around the Exit 1 & Exit 2 of MRT Shipai Station,
5. Areas around the Exit of MRT Wanfang Hospital Station.
According to Article 31, Paragraph 1, violators will be fined from NT$2,000 to NT$10,000.
