Taipei City Government has announced smoking is prohibited on the sidewalks around 180 public high schools, junior high schools, elementary schools, and Saint Francis High School.

To build a smoking-free environment and to protect students, teachers, parents, and the public from passive smoking, Department of Health, Taipei City Government has announced that the sidewalks around 180 public high schools, junior high schools, elementary schools, and Saint Francis High School are set to be smoking-free areas. The regulation is based on Article 15, Paragraph 1, No. 13 of Tobacco Hazard Prevention Act and has come into effect as of July 1, 2016. According to Article 31, Paragraph 1, violators will be fined from NT$2,000 to NT$10,000.
