In light of the challenges posed by urbanization and aging populations, which can no longer be addressed solely by the health department, Taipei City, under the direction of Mayor Ko Wen-je in 2015, adopted a community health development approach. This approach integrates three major issues: Healthy City, Age-friendly Environment, and Safe Community. A cross-departmental steering committee was established to promote these initiatives, with the Director of the Department of Health serving as the convener. The steering committee is divided into five working groups:“Safety and Security,” “Sustainable Ecology,” “Friendly Culture,” “Vitality and Health,” and “Prosperity and Convenience”. Each working group is led by the head of the respective government department. Additionally, a team of Healthy City experts was appointed to provide professional guidance and advice, with the aim of collectively advancing the Healthy City initiative and aligning it with international standards and practices.
