In light of the challenge of an aged society, the Taipei City government's Department of Health had followed Mayor Ko Wen-je's instruction at the end of 2015 and used community-based health promotion as a basis to integrate three major issues: namely, (1) health, (2) elderly friendliness, (3) safety, which have been integrated into the city's strategic map and policy priorities. "The Healthy City and Age-friendly City Promotion" Platform involves 31 departments and is divided into 5 task force groups. Furthermore, approximately 23 experts from a cross-disciplinary team had been invited to actively advise Taipei City in its quest to join the West Pacific "Alliance for Healthy Cities" (AFHC); in August 2016, Taipei City obtained membership to the Alliance under its own name, enabling its active participation in international conferences.
