NGOs Donate Zongzi to Medical Workers at Taipei City Hospital

To celebrate the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival and as a way of saying thank you to the hardworking health workers of Taipei City, a number of nongovernmental organizations joined hands to donate 4,000 wheat zongzi to Taipei City Hospital on June12.

The organizations making the donation include: Chinese Senior Citizen Support Association (CSCSA), Taiwan Barley Products Industry Association (TBPIA), Taipei City Community Service Association, Taipei Capitol Lions Club, and more.

Deputy Mayor Huang Shan-Shan attended the donation ceremony. During her address, she noted that the COVID-19 pandemic in Taiwan has remained under control in recent days, but the public should still remain alert. She is touched by the devotion of medical professionals who worked in the frontlines. These individuals play an important role in safeguarding public health.

Chairman Hung of TBPIA remarked that the COVID-19 pandemic has led to casualties upon nations worldwide. Despite the threat to their own health, Taipei's medical workers continue to maintain the line of defense against the virus. Everyone in Taiwan are well aware of the sacrifice of health professionals and grateful for their dedication.

Secretary-general Huang of CSCSA pointed out that old people are at high risk of COVID-19, so the public should pay special attention to senior citizens' immunity system.

Furthermore, colorectal cancer is listed by the Health Promotion Administration as one of the top ten cancer in Taiwan. These are the reasons for fueling the development of the healthy, wheat-based zongzi. Hopefully, the use of ingredients such as barley kernel and barley flakes can replace the harder-to-digest glutinous rice, thereby creating a kind of zongzi that can be enjoyed on a daily basis.
