1. Introduction
In order to encourage newlyweds to fully understand the other’s health condition before pregnancy and help parents-to-be welcome their newborn babies without worries, the Department of Health, Taipei City Government is now subsidizing “Post-Marital Pre-Pregnancy Health Examinations” and ”Down Syndrome Screenings for Pregnant Women” for Taipei City citizens.
2. Service Content
A. Post-marital Pre-pregnancy Health Examination
a. Subsidized: Married couples who are registered Taipei City citizen, and yet to produce a first-born are entitled to the subsidy.
b. Subsidized Amount and Examination Items:
■ For females, a subsidy of NT$ 1,595 is given to each case; examination items include: Urine test, routine blood tests, syphilis screening, HIV screening, tests for rubella and chicken pox antibodies, thyroid-stimulating hormone, and systemic lupus erythematosus, with a total of 8 items.
■ For males, a subsidy of NT$ 655 is given to each case; examination items include: Urine test, routine blood tests, syphilis screening, HIV screening, and semen analysis (please be abstinent for three days), with a total of 5 items.
B. Down Syndrome Screening for Pregnant Women (subsidize either 1st or 2nd trimester screening fee)
a. Subsidized:
■ Early Phase (first trimester) Screening for Down Syndrome: 9 to 13 weeks pregnant women who are registered Taipei City citizen.
■ Middle Phase (second trimester) Screening for Down Syndrome: 14 to 20 weeks pregnant women who are registered Taipei City citizen.
b. Subsidized Amount and Examination Items:
■ Early Phase (first trimester) Screening for Down Syndrome: A subsidy of NT$ 2,200 is given to each case; examination items include: Fetal nuchal translucency ultrasound test and serum screening (serum screening may be brought forward since the 9th week with doctors’ professional judgment, except that Fetal nuchal translucency shall still be conducted on the 11th to the 13th week of pregnancy).
■ Middle Phase (second trimester) Screening for Down Syndrome: A subsidy of NT $1,000 is given to each case; examination items include: serum (AFP and β-hCG) screening.
